Ride Report - Collector Ride 24 August 08

Club President Gaye chatting with Lynwood Cafe owner and Ducatisti, Robert

Green Square was awash with correctly coloured Ducatis of various models on Sunday morning. It was good to see Craig back on his Strudel, now all we have to do is convince him that the Sabbath, or at least Sunday, should be reserved for riding not working. The rest of us, consisting of Gaye (Supersport 1000), Brendan (ST3), Tony (Monster), Paul (ST4) and Chris (ST3s), headed off to Collector via Sutton Road and the old Highway to Gundaroo, then Gunning, Bredalbane and the Island of Man TT-esque  laneway to Collector. Why TT-esque? Ride it and find out. All that is missing are stonewalls and people.

The day was perfect- not a breath of wind not a cloud in the sky. The old highway is still bumpy-as but we all agreed that one feature of the Ducati is that it soaks up bumps without throwing you off line. Intelligence along the way suggested that the Lynwood Cafe is the place to stop at Collector and the Ducati sticker on a car in the car park and another one on the espresso machine confirmed why. Proprietor, Robert Broadbent, rides a 996 and lamented that it is a pity he is busy on weekends and can’t join us for rides. Without a booking we were relegated to sit outside under the tree – oh how unfortunate – a quiet sunny spot with a small stream nearby, without having to swelter inside wearing riding gear with all the lunchtime punters soaking up the open fires. The beef-stout pie was popular along with the fish and chips. The pleasant day finished with and sedatish ride back along the old highway coming out behind the tulip farm and curiosity as to what other Ducati owners were doing on such a perfect day. A nice little 200k loop well worth doing again.
